All about me

When I'm not being a linguist, I read, study Biblical Greek and Hebrew, take classes at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, serve on the PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter) team running a homeless shelter at my church, and enjoy gardening, cooking, reading, writing, games, movies, magic, and Tetris.

I'm married to Andrew E. Birner, senior network architect at W.W. Grainger, and we have a 15-year-old daughter, Suzanne, who loves to read, ride horses, and play “Go”.  We also have a seven-year-old black lab mix named Clover and a quarterhorse named Ben.  Suzanne and Ben compete on the hunter/jumper circuit.  Between Ben and her previous horses, T-2 and Henri, Suzanne has collected a very impressive pile of ribbons.
