All graduate students in the Department of English are members of the English Graduate Student Association (EGSA) by virtue of their enrollment in the program. Each year the students elect a group of officers to lead EGSA in its activities.
Activities vary depending on the concerns of the current graduate students and the EGSA officers. Past activities have included:
- Hosting scholars and authors on campus for speaking engagements
- Organizing workshops on topics such as writing paper abstracts for submittal to conferences, presenting conference papers and getting papers published
- Organizing study groups for the MA comprehensive exams
- Administering the Arnold Fox Essay Awards
- Fostering community and planning informal social events for graduate students
- Supporting the MCLLM conference
