The Writers' Workshop at Northern Illinois University serves as an integral part of the developmental English course that our CHANCE students take their freshman year. Selected through a variety of indicators as young people who show real potential, real promise, these students can and do succeed in college. Their success in the English class is due to a number of factors, among which are small class size (15 students), seasoned instructors, and regular, mandatory workshop participation.
