| Detailed Course Description: The purpose of this class is to give students wishing to major or minor in English an overview of literary genres as well as enhance their abilities to discuss and write about literature. By reading and responding to a diverse range of works, students will learn many of the debates central to literary scholarship as well as build a vocabulary for discussing literature. These skills will then be applied to their writing. Students will also do library research on selected topics in literary studies.

| Course Requirements: Three 5 page papers, quizzes on literary terms and works, library research assignment, final exam. Papers weigh most heavily.
