Title: STRUCTURE OF MODERN ENGLISH

Course Description: A survey of Modern English and contemporary linguistic methods of analyzing and describing its major structures and their functions.

Detailed Course Description:

The students will get an understanding of the structure of English in each component of grammar: phonetics/phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics. They will also acquire the basic skills for linguistic analysis as well as get a grasp of what makes human language unique. This course will also serve as an introduction to varieties of English, i.e. dialects, pidgins, creoles, etc, as well as to the interdisciplinary studies involving language, i.e. psycholinguistics and computer.
