Topic:  Science Fiction 

What is science fiction? What are the limits of the genre? In pursuit of these questions, we will read ten novels chosen to represent the range of the field. Note (1.)You do not have to be an expert in sf to enroll in this course; also (2.) you also do not have to be an English major. Lecture-discussion format.

Weekly reading quizzes; final exam; essays (three short, one longer [reporting on a book outside the syllabus])
