Title: SHAKESPEARE

Course Description: Representative comedies, tragedies, and historical plays. Special attention given to Shakespeare's growth as a literary artist andto the factors which contributed to that development; his work evaluated in terms of its significance for modern times.

Detailed Course Description:

How did early modern playwrights fashion their works? Specifically, how did Shakespeare? The primary goal for the course is that students will learn how to answer these questions. We will read seven of the best-known works, representing different genres and periods in Shakespeare’s career, with close attention to the literary, theatrical, and linguistic conventions involved. Lecture-discussion format.

 

Course Requirements:

Weekly reading quizzes, three essays, final exam.
