Title: ADVANCED ESSAY COMPOSITION -- General

Course Description: An advanced course in writing expressive, persuasive, and informative essays and developing appropriate stylistic and organizational techniques.

PRQ:

Detailed Course Description:

Advanced Essay Composition, an intensive writing course, will give you the opportunity to practice and to hone your writing skills. You will engage in a variety of writing projects from a resume to an academic argument. Please note, we will NOT do creative writing. Enrolling in this course means that you have strong writing skills (thesis, paragraphing, grammar, mechanics, documentation, etc.), but that you desire to refine those skills, to test new approaches, and hopefully to uncover your “voice.”

Course Requirements:

You will meticulously plan, write, and revise six papers. The class utilizes small group workshop and whole class discussion during which you will critically and constructively comment on papers by professionals and peers. (*You will submit one project for the entire class to critique.) Prepare to offer (and receive) constructive criticism, to listen with an open mind, and to use your best judgment.
