| Detailed Course Description: Not only an introduction to the Bible as literature, but also an introduction to literature through the Bible--by far the most influential anthology of writings in the Western tradition. Special attention to such topics as canon, genre, lyric form, narrative structure, and intertextuality. Readings to include Genesis and Exodus, Job, Psalms (in the King James translation), Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Lamentations, selections from Jewish historical and prophetic writings, and most of the New Testament. Lecture-discussion format.
