Title: RESTORATION AND 18th CENTURY ENGLISH LITERATURECourse Description: Later 17th and 18th century literature, including selections from such representative writers as Dryden, Swift, Pope, and Johnson.

| Detailed Course Description: Reading and discussion of works by representative poets, playwrights, and novelists of the period. The class will proceed chronologically, examining various works in their social, biographical, literary, and political contexts.

| Course Requirements: Grades will be based on a distribution of up to 500 points as follows: Quizzes (10 points for each of 14); Paper 1 (100 points); Paper 2 (120 points); Paper 1 Discussion (25 points); Paper 2 Discussion (25 points); Attendance (3 points for each of 30 classes); Total points will be converted to grades as follows: 450-500—A; 400-449—B; 350-399—C; 300-349—D; 0-299—F.
