Title: CREATIVE WRITINGCourse Description: A workshop/pedagogy course in poetry or fiction for students who wish to further their knowledge of literature through practice of the art, and for those who intend to become practicing writers and critics. May be repeated to a maximum of 9 semester hours as the topic changes.

| Detailed Course Description:This is a class in the craft and discipline of writing poetry, focusing both on traditional and innovative contemporary poetry, addressing craft issues and taking risks in our work. We will alternate the discussion/presentation of essays and books of poetry with workshop crits where students apply the knowledge from the works we read to their peers and their own work to significantly grow in the art. Students will meet individually with me to discuss their poems. This is not a class in light verse, song lyric, or spoken word. |
| Course Requirements:Reading and response papers to weekly assignments, presentations, poetry drafts (sometimes in response to prompts), regular attendance, thoughtful balanced critique, participation, application of reading material to your own work and to other’s works, revision, portfolio. |
