Title: HISTORY OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Course Description: Linguistic analysis and description of the development of English from its earliest Anglo-Saxon stages to present-day British and American English.

Detailed Course Description:

This course will trace the historical development of the English language, from its prehistoric roots, through Old and Middle English, and into the modern period.  We will examine phonology, morphology, and syntax, as well as the cultural and historical forces influencing language change.
