Title: TOPICS IN PROFESSIONAL WRITING (3)Course Description: Study of specific topics in written technical communication, such as the history of technical writing, online documentation, emerging technologies and technical writing, or the rhetoric of scientific writing. May be repeated to a maximum of 6 semester hours when topic varies.

| Detailed Course Description: Introduction to usability testing for technical communicators. Students learn methods for usability testing and what it can contribute to the development of a communication product. Reading material will cover theory and research underlying usability principles relevant to technical communication. Students practice conducting formal usability research for real-life professional documents and/or websites. |
| Course Requirements: Coursework includes establishing testing goals and objectives, selecting participants, developing test materials, conducting usability tests, analyzing results, and reporting findings. |
