| Detailed Course Description: Course Description: This seminar has been scheduled in anticipation of the 24th Annual International Conference on Virginia Woolf, to be held in Chicago, June 5-8, 2014. I am co-organizing the conference with Dr. Pamela Caughie of Loyola University Chicago. The theme of the conference is “Writing the World.” By the time you successfully finish this seminar, you should have a proposal ready to submit to the conference. (The submission deadline for the conference will be in late January.) 2014 will be the centenary of the beginning of WWI, a formative event in English and world history, in British literature, and in Virginia Woolf’s life and work. Significant trends in Woolf studies that this theme addresses include not only Woolf’s writing about peace, justice, war, and violence but also the globalization of Woolf scholarship, the continued relevance of her art and her thought in the 21st century, the cosmic creativity of writing as Woolf envisions it in The Waves and other works, and Woolf’s status as a world author. Note: This seminar may be applied to the Ph.D. distribution requirement for Post-1900 British, American and Postcolonial literature. | ||||||
