Course Description: This is a seminar on language universals and linguistic typology. The aim of this course is to provide an introduction to the typological study of language, in particular contrasting alternative approaches to language universals research, including current work on the cross-linguistic data on syntactic topics. We will look at various structures, such as relative clauses in different “types” of languages, including English.

Course Requirements:

Requirements: Students will conduct original research in their field/topic of interest. Research methodology will constitute a component of the course material.
