2001 Workshop:Celebrating the Body ElectricMorgan State University

Throughout the day participants will learn a number of different computer applications and get ideas for projects, lessons, and techniques that will increase student involvement in the English classroom. Workshop consultants will act as mentors for participants, helping them learn whatever application is being presented. Participants can expect a great deal of one-on-one assistance throughout the day.8:30-9:00: Welcome and Introductions. Please fill out information form, which we'll pass around.
9:00-9:50: Enhancing critical thinking skills through e-mail, journals, and other applications. Participants will learn specific computer applications for the classroom.Pamela Childers and Susan Lang

10:50-11:00: Break
11:00-11:50: Computer facilitated peer-response strategies. Participants will learn how to use the "comment" feature in word processing.Rich Rice and Judi Kirkpatrick
There are many "quick and easy" methods and strategies to encourage scholar reflection. We've looked at some peer response tools. Tools like Insert >Comment and Insert>Hyperlink can be used to build meta-reflection into the process of writing.
11:50-1:00: Lunch, on your own.
1:00-1:50: Using the web in productive ways. Participants will learn how to evaluate websites and how to use the web efficiently and effectively in the classroom.Michael Day and Rich Rice
