I think the mixed blooded spotted cattle represent the mixed blood
of Tayo. The cattle are kind of wanders over the land and they are not
sure where they are supposed to go. The cattle have very little food and
water, so they are like Tayo in a way, because he also does not have very
much in life to call his own. Just as the cattle are unsure of where to
go so is Tayo. The cattle are confused about what they are doing on the
strange land of the reservation so they break down the fences and they
head south, back to Mexico. Tayo is confused about different things in
life, so he always stays close by or on the reservation. "Cattle raising
on Indian Land, or how raise cattle that don't eat grass or drink water."
This phrase on page 75 talks about how the reservation has very little
food or water to offer to the cattle, and that is true also for the people
that live on the reservation. The cattle have learned over the years to
adapt to not having the best of things. The reservation people have also
adapted to a lifestyle of not having the best thingsa, and doing what it
takes to survive on what they have just like the mixed-blooded spotted
cattle.
