Professional Interests


Dirk Johnson is a nationally prominent author and journalist known for his award-winning work as Bureau Chief for The New York Times and Newsweek magazine. He is the NIU representative on the board of the Northern Illinois Newspaper Association, where he is the Executive Secretary. Johnson organizes an annual conference in Chicago in June on the future of American journalism, and serves as the moderator on a panel that includes prominent NIU alumni. The event draws a large audience of influential business, political and public figures, and has been featured in major publications.
