The English department offers courses leading to a Certificate of Graduate Study in Technical Writing. This certificate recognizes successful completion of a set of courses intended to enhance the professional qualifications of technical writers. Only courses taken at NIU may be applied to the certificate. Successful completion requires a grade point average of at least 3.00 in the courses used to meet the requirements. Courses used to satisfy the requirements of the certificate may also be applied toward a graduate degree.

*With approval of the certificate advisor, students may select up to six semester-hours of electives from other English courses in rhetoric, language, linguistics, or writing or from appropriate courses in such other areas as communication, instructional technology, computer science, art, and business.
