Towers is Northern Illinois University’s yearly literary and creative arts magazine featuring all original, unpublished work by students.
Style: A professional peer-edited journal that address questions of style, stylistics, and poetics, including research and theory in discourse analysis, literary and nonliterary genres, narrative, figuration, metrics, rhetorical analysis, and the pedagogy of style. Contributions may draw from such fields as literary criticism, critical theory, computational linguistics, cognitive linguistics, philosophy of language, and rhetoric and writing studies. In addition, Style publishes reviews, review-essays, surveys, interviews, translations, enumerative and annotated bibliographies, and reports on conferences, Web sites, and software.
The Writing Center at Stevenson Towers South, Lower Level is a place for all writers at Northern Illinois University-- undergraduates, graduates, staff, and even faculty-- to talk about their writing with trained consultants, one-on-one.
The Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) program at NIU is based on the belief that writing should not be confined to first-year writing classes; we live in the world of language, and students should be encouraged to engage in expressive, academic, and professional writing and speaking in all of their classes. The WAC web site presents an archive of useful materials to students and teachers across the university.
Located in Reavis Hall 306B, the ESL Center provides support services for non-native speakers of English. The clinic is staffed by tutors who have experience helping clients with spoken English, listening comprehension, grammar and mechanics, writing, and culture.

The Department of English, in conjunction with NIU's Career Services internship/co-op program, offers internships for upper-level undergraduate and graduate students. The Writers' Workshop at Northern Illinois University serves as an integral part of the developmental English course that our CHANCE students take their freshman year.
