NOTES
Admission to teacher certification in English requires completion of the core competency requirements in English, Communications, and Mathematical Sciences with a grade of "C" or better.
A non-Western or third world culture course from either the humanities or social science areas must be included. Some NIU interdisciplinary gen eds will also satisfy this requirement.
Required for B.A. degree and English major. Previous foreign language background may reduce or fulfill this requirement; consult the NIU Undergraduate Catalog for further information on the B.A. requirement in foreign language.
NIU students should select at least one humanities gen ed from the College of Visual and Performing Arts.
A minor is strongly recommended, but not required.
Students may wish to select PSYC 102 since that course is the pre-requisite for some courses in the College of Education.
NIU students may wish to select a health course that will also satisfy the 3-hour interdisciplinary requirement for graduation.
Unless students are exempted by passing the Grammar Exemption Examination, in which case they should take six hours in the minor.
