Technology

The English Department at NIU continues to be a leader in the appropriate use of technology for pedagogy and research.

Our First Year Composition Program is one of the only programs in the nation that integrates the use of technology into its writing curriculum for every incoming first year student.

Faculty in the Undergraduate Program utilize many technological resources in the teaching of literature, film, and professional writing, and several have developed innovative projects to create truly dynamic and interactive learning experiences for their students.

Students in our Graduate Programs benefit from a variety of technological resources and projects developed by the graduate faculty.

Further, the department hosts its own teacher-training facility, the Networked Writing and Research Lab , which serves both as a training center for teachers new to the composition program, and as a specialized graduate classroom for teachers whose projects require a customized environment.

Finally, the department believes in giving back to the community, and hosts several Open Source projects and other resources available to the general world wide community.
