http://htmlgoodies.earthweb.com/primers/basics.html

Weeklong tutorial series, seven lessons to be completed one per day. Some terminology is slightly different from standards, such as "flag" instead of "tag."

http://www.quadzilla.com/

Highly recommended collection of how-to, tutorial, and reference materials regarding website design. Somewhat dated, only has HTML 3.2 tag reference, and refers to older versions of Netscape and IE.

http://www.knopfler.com/phobic/

"HTML for Technophobes." British site that promotes the use of drag and drop/WYSIWIG (what you see is what you get) HTML editors like Netscape Composer, PageMill, and MS Frontpage. Good at demystifying the creation of web pages, but promotes some technophobic and "user" rather than "coder" behaviors. Explains code in terms of practical function, and instructs in practical and aesthetic design.

http://www.dsiegel.com/tips/index.html

"Web Wonk" is a source for layout, design, and typographical "tips." It's somewhat dated as far as actual references to HTML code, but the principles still hold for aesthetic, practical, and philosophical approaches to graphic design on the web and in print.

http://www.mcs.net/~jorn/html/terrorist.html

A more developed and expanded set of guidelines for HTML design from Hyperterrorist. Sensitive especially to LYNX and other types of users with older or less full-featured browsers. Though somewhat didactic and biased toward Hyperterrorist's own frustrations and aesthetics for design, a useful set of guidelines and often overlooked CYA considerations.

http://www.cs.brown.edu/courses/bridge/1998/res/javascript/javascript-tutorial.html#1

Very straightforward instruction-based introduction to javascript. Good for web designers who like to read text before using a "hands-on" approach. Set up as one long document with anchor tags, so easily copied as a text file or printed as one (large and multipage) file.

http://jsguide.simplenet.com/

Beginner's guide to javascript, coded by a beginner as he learns javascript. The author of this page has used this page as his "learning lab" to test his new skills. Good examples and tutorials. Increases in complexity as one moves through the site.
