Technology: Graduate Program

The Graduate Program in English integrates the use of technology both for teaching and research in a variety of ways.

Our first-year teaching assistants attend a full-year, six-hour graduate course, Seminar in the Teaching of College Writing, which includes one class per week in the computer lab preparing them to teach the lab sections of their classes. Through hands-on experience with the tools, collaborating with each other on lab assignments, and consulting with veteran tech-savvy teachers, the TAs develop confidence in an approach to teaching composition informed by the latest and best of computers and writing research.

In addition, the Technical and Professional Writing Program specializes in helping students master current technologies used in the production of professional writing, including courses such as ENGL 532 (Writing for Electronic Media).

Graduate faculty and students have a number of technology resources available to them, including the use of our departmental teacher training computer lab, the NWR.

Moreover, graduate students have the opportunity to work in the Networked Writing and Research office, gaining advanced technology training in a variety of topics such as pedogogy support and development, advanced web page design including HTML, CSS, and even PHP and SQL, hardware support and troubleshooting, and network administration.
