Suggestions for Ten-Minute Plays
- Establish the conflict early (within the first page, preferably the first line)
- Use dialogue to forward the action at all times, not to disclose back story (unless it advances the action)
- Try not to use more than three characters
- If you have fights, keep them simple in description
- Plays must have a clear beginning, middle and end
- Review Gary Garrison's Perfect 10 and the "types" of plays to avoid.
- Please keep in mind the feasibility of putting on a small-scale production of your play (try not to rely too heavily on elaborate costumes, lots of actors, or expensive sets/props).
